The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? PSALMS 27:1
Barbara Jean Lourant Walls was born in Cottonport, Louisiana, to the late Rev. Israel and Elnora Lourant. She grew up in a loving Christian home with her late sisters, Elizabeth (Jo) and Daisy (Tootie), and was preceded in death by her son, Israel Lourant. Barbara gave her life to Christ early and was baptized at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church.
Barbara graduated from Peabody High School in 1959 and earned her bachelor's degree from Southern University in 1964. She worked as an educator in the Rapides Parish School District, serving as a Physical Education Coach and librarian until her retirement. Barbara also served in the Army Reserves, receiving accolades for her dedication.
Affectionately known as Bob, she was outgoing and loved teaching and crafting. Barbara's adventurous spirit led her to live in Detroit, Michigan, and Sacramento, California.
Barbara leaves behind a host of family, including two nieces, one nephew, one grandson, five great-nieces, three great-nephews, cousins, and many friends. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
