Sandra Kay Walker-Williams entered this life on November 12, 1953, in Pineville, LA. She was the second of six children to Cornelius and Minnie
Walker, Jena, LA. At a young age Sandras zest for life and learning propelled her academically, and she was always at the top of her class.
She was an honor student at Goodpine High School, and one of the first students to desegregate Jena High School in 1970. She later moved to New
Orleans, and in 1971 graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High. She also gave birth to her first child, Lena Azalea Gibbs.
Sandra entered Grambling State University for undergraduate studies and majored in Finance. It is also at Grambling where she met and later married
the late Michael Dezary Williams, Sr, a member of the famed Grambling football team under Coach Eddie Robinson. From this union two sons were
born, the late Michael Dezary Williams, II and Myron Derant Williams.
Sandra was an active member of Bethel CME Church, Jena, LA. She served in various capacities including church secretary, Sunday school teacher, and
youth director under the guidance of Rev. Brenda Moore-Davis. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eastern Star.
Prior to her illness, Sandra spent several years employed within the LaSalle Parish School System. She began her tenure as school aide and tutor, and
later joined the LaSalle Parish School Board as the Secretary and Assistant to Federal Programs Director, Mrs. Barbarean Elmore where she collaborated on
various program and grant requests for the parish.
Sandra, known to many as San, Sandy, or Sandra Kay, had a wide array of interests. She loved creating whether in the kitchen, on paper, or sewing; but
mostly she loved people. She was always the life of the event, always taking an interest in everyone, and turning small talk into lifelong friendships. She was
a mentor to children and loved to teach. She had a knack for turning anyones bad day into a good one.
After years of toiling on earth Sandra took her rest, and on Saturday, July 31 she took up residency in her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by
her father, Cornelius Walker; mother, Minnie Cupil-Walker; brothers Jeffrey Lyn and Kevin Duane; son Michael Dezary; and niece Erica Cherelle Green.
Sandra leaves to cherish her memories a daughter, Lena Gibbs, Lacombe, LA; son, Myron Williams, Pineville, LA; grandson JaZavier Williams, Pineville,
